What kind of writers is this for?
The short answer is "as many as humanly possible!" We've designed our program to benefit writers of novels and short stories, screenplays, graphic novels / comics, and more, with some craft classes especially for beginning writers. Our hands-on demos will be useful to writers across genres - including crime/mystery/thriller, historical fiction and romance, science fiction, fantasy, and others.
What do I need to bring?
We recommend note-taking materials, cash for incidental purchases, and the holy trinity of Texas outdoor events: a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Layered clothing is never a bad idea either.
What is your refund policy?
We can offer you a 100% refund until August 13th, and a 50% refund until September 13th. After September 13th, we can not issue any refunds - but we will be happy to facilitate ticket transfers.
What if it rains?
Then we carry on in the rain! We're Texans - we don't do weather cancellations.
What is the parking situation?
We have it, and it is free! If you're coming with friends, please consider carpooling - it will make for a shorter walk for everyone.
What about lodging?
Will there be security?
Yes, we'll have 24-hour on-site security for both days.
What about first aid stations?
No worries! We will have a paramedic on-site throughout the whole event.
Is WitF handicapped-accessible?
Most of our buildings are ADA compliant. We don't have sidewalks, but most of our grounds are flat, mowed, and wheelchair friendly. Please contact us with any particular concerns you have: we want Writers in the Field to be a welcoming, inclusive, accessible space for everyone!
What are the food options?
We have a variety of concessions available for purchase, hot lunch on both days (menu TBA) and campers are of course welcome to bring their own provisions.
Is this a kid-friendly event?
Sort of! We don't have any activities targeted specifically towards children, but we've had a number of young writers enjoy our interactive, hands-on program. Please note: everyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Can I bring my pet?
Sorry - service animals only. For everyone's comfort and safety, we don't allow pets or emotional support animals.
Can I buy a one-day pass?
What is the dress code? Should I wear a costume?
No costumes are needed (though they are always welcome, and you will see a few!) Please dress for your comfort - including your most foot-friendly walking shoes - and take into account the changing temperatures of a Texas autumn. We want you to enjoy the entire day, and stay for the evening activities!
Do you accept credit cards? Will there be an ATM?
Sorry, we don't have an ATM - but we accept all major credit cards. Bring some cash to be safe!
